The valley behind Mitre Peak, Milford
I have just been on a cruise down the east coast of New Zealand and Fiordland. What a priviledge viewing all this from the 15th Deck of a luxury liner. The natural beauty of South Westland, Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds as I have seen takes your breath away. As an artist I have painted a lot of this area using small boats, planes and by road and always with the same reaction of pure wonder. I am sure Captain Cook and others who first saw this would feel the same.
Our captain on the ship was saying Milford, Dusky and Doubtful sounds we’re the jewels of the cruise. I can understand this statement.
I have worked as an artist around the globe, 13 countries to date, and I don’t think there is anything more grand than what is right here.
It is difficult to put into words my feelings while creating a painting like “the Valley Behind Mitre Peak” . The stillness, the sheer grandeur of the lofty peaks, waterfalls, the feeling like I was the only person to have seen all this. Absolutely Awesome. Small wonder artists get lost in a world of their own while painting this sort of scene.
